Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, developed by Ubisoft Quebec, is a large-scale open-world RPG set during the Peloponnesian War in 431 BCE. Players choose between Kassandra or Alexios, descendants of the legendary Spartan hero Leonidas. Cast out as a child, the protagonist becomes a mercenary involved in political conflicts, mythological mysteries and a family-driven narrative that spans all of Ancient Greece.
 

Odyssey emphasizes player freedom and RPG systems more than any previous entry in the series. Players shape their personality through dialogue choices, alliances, romances and major decisions that influence endings and world states. The game features an enormous, beautifully crafted map including Attika, Lakonia, Athens, Corinth, Kephallonia and numerous islands across the Aegean Sea.
 

Combat is fluid and ability-driven, focusing on melee, stealth and archery. The iconic Spear of Leonidas grants supernatural abilities such as Hero Strike, Bull Rush and enhanced assassination moves. Odyssey also brings back naval gameplay, allowing players to command and upgrade their ship, the Adrestia, to engage in large-scale sea battles.
 

The world is filled with quests, historical characters like Socrates and Pericles, legendary beasts (Medusa, Minotaur, Cyclops), the Cult of Kosmos, forts, tombs, mercenary rankings and exploration-based rewards. With its rich lore, deep RPG mechanics and cinematic storytelling, Odyssey offers hundreds of hours of gameplay.
 

It also ties into the overarching Assassin–Templar storyline, expanding the mythological and Isu aspects of the franchise.
