Some cyber insects going by the name of ShinyHunters have claimed to have breached files of the upcoming Rockstar game, GTA 6. Now they are blackmailing the gaming giant that if they don’t pay a ransom by April 14, 2026, they will leak the files “with several annoying digital problems for them, as The Cybersec Guru notes in its original reporting of the case.

We don’t know about the files stolen from this attack, but if we go by the company's statement, “This incident has no impact” on the “organization” and “players.” No significant data was taken, it seems. Guess we can only know after April 14.

That gives us two scenarios now. One is that the data will be released by these digital insects. And, if we don’t see that happening, that maybe because Rockstar could agree to pay the ransom, which is unlikely given that there will be “no impact.”

It Will Only be a Promotional Boost for Rockstar, That Too For Free

The hackers didn’t mention what kind of data they have access to. But if this includes similar things to the massive 2022 leak by the imbecile Lapsus group of hackers, who used a then 17 years boy with autism to execute their evil-plated motives of releasing underdeveloped GTA 6 clips, it won’t likely affect the release of the upcoming game.

In fact, it will only increase the hype about it, especially if there’s any recent footage in there. But we hope that doesn't happen. GTA 6 is already shaping up to be the biggest game of all time for its map and size, which is reportedly quite big, if we go by the rumors. The map is said to be double the size of GTA 5 and the game size might go up to 300 GB.

As of this writing, GTA 6 is set for a November 19, 2026 release, and this leak doesn’t seem to be significant enough to disrupt it. We will know more on April 14, if there’s any truth to the hackers’ claims.
