Metal claws will tear the flesh apart and blood will spill in Insomniac’s Wolverine game, set for a September 2026 release. Though we prefer Hugh Jackman to pull off such violence while playing the iconic character, we have a different face for this video game, unlike its 2009 counterpart, X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
The game’s leak a while ago gave a lot of things away already, but not much. In part, some characters who might appear. Then the trailer during PlayStation’s State of Play confirmed a few of them, including Mystique and Omega Red. Many more will be there obviously, but we don’t know who. But we know who could possibly appear in it. So, we made a list and can’t wait to see them in action. Well, hopefully.
Jean Grey
This is a part of that leak, which suggested that Jean Grey might appear in the upcoming Insomniac game. And, like we have seen in the films, the love will bloom between them. Though Logan’s not lucky when it comes to his relationship with Jean because she usually ends up with Cyclops.

Maybe this time it will be different because the story and the universe (Earth-1048) are different. Jean also comes with a glorious burden of being an Omega-level mutant, so she might have a major role to play in the story. And, according to the leak, Mr. Sinister is capturing Omegas in it. That, and her hair-raising Dark Phoenix aura is always a visual food for the soul, so we wouldn’t mind her in there.
Professor X
Professor Charles Xavier, his mentor and more like a father figure to Logan, should pop up at some point in the game. Perhaps during the ending or a post-credits scene to set up the further X-men games. There’s likely to be more X-men games from the studio, if you don’t already know, as the leak suggested.

We can have that moment when he tried to recruit him to the X-men while he smoked his cigar in a bar. Which also gives us a hope to see Professor X’s best friend turn rival Magneto. And maybe we already know what Logan’s answer is going to be initially.
Peter Parker
Peter Parker and Logan have teamed up before. There are issues like Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine, where both superheroes fought against Doctor Doom. Spidey grew a beard in this issue, so it is unlikely we’ll see this story coming into play, as Insomniac’s Spider-Man is a young’un.

That’s also another reason for web slinger to appear in the game, that Wolverine is in the same continuity as Marvel’s Spider-Man. Like we speculated about Professor X, he can appear later in the game to set up the future story.
Miles Morales
Miles is a rather new character in video games and films. A modern reimagining of Spider-Man, though he first appeared in Marvel comics in Ultimate Fallout #4, an issue from August 2011. Morales made it to the list for the same reason as Peter Parker, he also appears in the game. In fact, he has a solo game to his name, also developed by Insomniac.
Obviously, he has a different story so a hope is that he may appear alongside Peter, just like in Insomniac’s Spider-Man games.
Lady Deathstrike
Like Jean Grey, Lady Deathstrike’s name came up after the leak, so her appearance in the game is very likely. In comics, she is one of Wolverine’s arch enemies. It was her father, Lord Dark Wind, who invented the adamantium-bonding process, the same one used on Wolverine, which ended up with him having the metal claws.
If she isn’t known to you, a version of her has appeared in 2003’s X2, played by Kelly Hu, and in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, where Jade Lye played the character. Her presence means she might end up being one of the main bosses in the game.
Bolivar Trask
Sentinels are confirmed for Insomniac’s Wolverine, and if these mutant hunters are appearing in the story, Bolivar Trask must be in there somewhere. After all, he is the creator of Sentinels. He is one of the people who see mutants as a threat to humanity, so the creation. However, his beliefs are shattered soon.
In the film X-Men: Days of Future Past, Peter Dinklage, who portrayed the iconic Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones, played the character.
Sabretooth
Sabretooth is also one of Wolverine’s arch-enemies. But that’s not the only reason he should appear in the upcoming game. Sabretooth is his brother, and both began working together on a secret black ops team called Team X. There was no mention of Team X during that leak, but it’s a major part of Logan’s origin stories.
This is also how the film X-Men Origins: Wolverine begins. William Stryker leads the team, which is shattered after many members start to question Stryker’s immoral ways of operations. That gives us a possibility for a few more character appearances then.
Wendigo
Wendigo is like the Phoenix Force. It is a manifestation that can appear in any form. This form is usually a big white monster roaming the Canadian woods. And, if you have observed, there’s a lot of wilderness in Insomniac’s Wolverine. He is frequently seen brawling with superheroes like Wolverine, Hulk, and members of Alpha Flight.
Ironically, this giant beast is a better fit as a mini boss. Little challenges every now and then will certainly be fun during the story. Even a side quest featuring him will pull a lot of bloody punches in the game.
Apocalypse
Finally, we are ending the list with another name that popped up during that leak, Apocalypse. Apocalypse is presumed to be the first mutant that ever lived. In a way, you can say that he is the father of all mutants. Oscar Isaac played the character in X-Men: Apocalypse, and he was one horror show in it.
He is said to be teased at the end of the game and set up further X-men stories for Insomniac’s X-men video games.
