What if… You got a chance to play as an anti-hero besides Spider-Man. Yeah! You heard me right, Insomniac Games has struck back into the limelight after successfully announcing Marvel’s Wolverine for fall 2026, and now all eyes are on the studio’s upcoming standalone project, Marvel’s Venom.

Right after the release of Spider-Man 2 in 2023, the internet erupted with massive speculation regarding the studio’s move for a brand-new Venom game.

Later in 2023, speculation intensified after a major cybersecurity breach at Insomniac Games exposed confidential documents, including futuristic plans and project timelines.

According to reports, this heavily rumored project is under active development but has yet to be announced by the officials. Further, several reliable gaming channels and insider sources like MP1ST claim that the game will roll out on our screens in 2027.

What will Insomniac's Venom Game Offer?

It’s a bizarre thing to ask, but Marvel fans have been waiting for a Venom game since forever. With a Venom solo game in active development, rumors have swarmed around social media (and I am taking them with a grain of salt).

In fact, the playable content with Venom in Spider-Man 2 is not enough to satisfy our souls. Moreover, the symbiote was infused with Harry Osborne, making it one of the biggest plot twists from the original comics.

Rumored to be titled “Venom: Lethal Protector”, this in-development standalone project might depict the cut content from its predecessor.

As per the leaks from 2023, the Marvel’s Venom game could act as a bridge between Spider-Man 2 and 3, making the latest installment of the trilogy more immersive while facing arch-nemesis like Green Goblin (Norman Osborne). Further, this standalone Venom project could enhance the gaming experience by fulfilling the fanbase's long-lost desire for Eddie Brock’s version of Venom in Marvel’s gaming universe.

According to reliable sources like Luke Stephens LIVE, Spider-Ben, and critics from Reddit, the upcoming project might delve into the storyline of Eddie Brock’s (protagonist) version of Venom teaming up with Spider-Man to beat the Carnage symbiote, who was infused with Cletus Kasady (leader of a cult named “The Flame”) in the previous installment.

Due to a lack of storytelling from Venom’s side-quests in Spider-Man 2, it is highly speculated that Venom might go face-to-face against Carnage (Cletus Kasady) in New York.

On the other hand, fans speculate a classic narrative from Venom: Lethal Protector (1993), depicting Eddie Brock’s movement to San Fransico where he battles alongside Spider-Man against the 5 symbiotes generated by the Life Foundation.

Speaking of costumes and character design, there are plethora of predictions across social media platforms, but I would love to see Insomniac working with Matt Gargan’s design.

Will  Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine Shape the Future of Marvel’s Venom?

The craze for Marvel games amongst the gaming community is enormous. Undoubtedly, Insomniac Games has captured all the reputation with their previous titles by building a gaming universe for Marvel titles.

With Marvel’s Wolverine still under the testing phase with a pending ESRB rating, speculation says that Insomniac is fully focused on a grand release of the title, which could shape future projects like X-Men and Spider-Man 2099.

Followed by a bold and grittier environment from Marvel’s Wolverine, the Venom game will surely dive into beast mode, depicting the same level of madness and bloodshed, reshaping the entire bloodline for its successors.

Marvel’s Wolverine release can significantly hype the room with anticipation for Insomniac’s Venom project, by establishing a mature tone for the Marvel universe, and fluid combat mechanics.

Further, it would create an endless anticipation for a crossover, as both games will share the same universe. So… if you are still questioning this game’s existence, ample things are pointing towards its development.
