You’ve got a colorful life in that black and white box of PS5, ain’t you? Shooting and looting in Fortnite, going by different faces on a battlefield. Sometimes it’s the eye-raising Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, sometimes it's the King of the North, Jon Snow. You all are fighting to stay alive at the end of a fantastical battle, or maybe you are in a cooperative game trying to save the survivors from a cataclysmic storm.

These are just a few things to try in different game modes in Fortnite, a game that has become immensely popular among the players. Initially, it was released for PS4, but now it’s available on PS5 too. But if you have been playing it for a long time and want to take a break from this universe, there are more games like it on PS5 that you can try. You’ll find that teams trying to survive are at the heart of these games, and there are different modes like Fortnite that you can try playing, especially battle royale.

Battlefield REDSEC

Battlefield is known for its destruction, something you may have experienced in Fortnite too. But it doesn’t feel that realistic. In REDSEC, you don’t build things, but you do destroy the structures while surviving in a battle royale. Visual appeal here is better too, especially because of that giant fire circling and closing in at regular intervals.

There’s a sandbox for players too, just like Fortnite. You pick up assets from past Battlefield games and merge them at your discretion to create an entirely new experience. Hide the XM8 LMG with iron sights in the Battlefield V map Arras, and no one will judge you. Sky is your limit here.

PUBG : Battlegrounds

What list featuring battle royales do you think exists that doesn't mention PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds? None, I guess. Both the games were released in the same year, that is, 2017, but it was PUBG that made a buzz in the industry. It’s not as colorful as Fortnite but it does have regular collaborations that bring players new skins to show off while playing.

You can also choose to play different modes like in Fortnite if battle royale takes too long to conquer. There are short matches where two teams are put together and both fight until a certain point limit is reached. But don’t think these short games are less interesting. They can get more tense than the final circle in the battle royale mode.

Marvel Rivals

Marvel Rivals is fairly new in this line of games but players are already throwing lasers with their Iron Man suits and smashing holes in buildings in bulk while playing as the Hulk. You should know that Fortnite has had a healthy bits of collaborations with Marvel so there’s more similarity between these games than you think. They both are colorful, people fight, and they both have Marvel characters in them. But it’s Marvel Rivals’ art style that beats Fortnite here. The animations in the former are sincerely appealing to the eyes.

There are several modes to choose in the game, including Convoy, Domination, Doom Match, and more. You’ll be defending or attacking an object. Domination is already a popular mode in multiplayer games and teams need to capture a zone. Doom Match is simply free for all, where the first person reaching the points limit wins. Try more of those modes, you’ll see new rules to play a game then.

Call of Duty : Warzone

Think of Call of Duty: Warzone as PUBG: Battlegrounds but better. It has got everything in it, the thrill of killing a squad as the circle nears, the weapons with some mind-blowing firepower, different modes to try your combat skills against the players and more. But it has become more like Fortnite lately, bringing in too many fancy skins, so now it doesn’t even feel like we are in battle zones against soldiers like it used to be when it was released.

You should know that this is a sequel to the game of the same name and is also called Warzone 2.0. The one that was released was discontinued in 2022 following 2.0’s release. And like the predecessor, it too was praised for its gameplay. Plus, it came up with a feature you don’t usually see in battle royale games, which is to recruit a player from the enemy team during a match. Now that is an action game with some serious politics.

Valorant

When you play Valorant, you’ll notice that Marvel Rivals is somewhat the same. It’s just that there are superheroes in one game and there are agents in another. Maybe Marvel Rivals drew inspiration from Valorant somewhere along the line, but Valorant drew inspiration from the father of all multiplayer shooters, Counter-Strike.

Usually, your team is either attacking or defending areas with every player assigned a certain role that comes with certain skills. For example, the Sentinels class can defend by doing things like barricading enemies or jamming weapons, and Controllers can use molotovs, stun grenades, and more to control the territory for the team’s advantage. You’ll find that Fortnite Ballistic is one game mode that matches Valorant’s themes.

Apex Legends

I find Apex Legends closest to Fortnite due to its visuals, gameplay, venues, and more. But it’s in first person so you get that Warzone- or REDSEC-like feel. The former feels more like it when we are in the zombie mode, fighting off hordes of the dead. And it too had a mobile companion, and, like Warzone’s mobile companion, it was discontinued.

Like Valorant, there are different classes to choose from, which comes with certain abilities that you can use in favor of the team. They can fight in different modes, including battle royale of up to 60 players, Gun Run, Control, and more.

Super Animal Royale

Super Animal Royale is the only game here that isn’t running in three dimensions but comes with all the fun and tactics that players need in Fortnite and related games. You’ll be dead laughing upon seeing animals fight to death while sometimes patriotic or sometimes funny soundtracks in the background play.

If you’ve played Miniclip’s Doodle Army 2: Mini Militia, Super Animal Royale is its bigger and better brother. There aren’t different modes here but battle royale, so you’ll always be surrounded by a lot of enemies in these anthropomorphic animals’ arena.

Naraka : Bladepoint

Finishing off this list with Naraka: Bladepoint, which is basically Fortnite’s battle royale without guns. That’s understandable because of its medieval settings. Though it’s not really fantastical, the game elements like characters sending fire bombs your way do give off such vibes. You’ll make loots in a similar fashion as Fortnite, PUBG, or Warzone, but it’ll usually be spears, knives, and such things.

Though you won’t find any more game modes here, like Super Animal Royale, so you’ll have to show off those skills in a battle zone only.

So, which of these games are you playing on your PS5 next? Tell us in the comments.
