Metroid Dread is a fast-paced 2D action-adventure where Samus Aran explores planet ZDR, facing deadly E.M.M.I. robots and uncovering the conclusion of the Metroid saga. Featuring intense combat, fluid movement, exploration and suspenseful gameplay on Nintendo Switch.
Metroid Dread, developed by MercurySteam in collaboration with Nintendo EPD, is a return to classic 2D Metroid gameplay with modern mechanics and cinematic storytelling. Serving as the long-awaited conclusion to the Metroid story arc that began decades ago, the game follows bounty hunter Samus Aran as she investigates the mysterious planet ZDR after receiving a cryptic transmission.
The core of Metroid Dread lies in exploration, ability progression, and survival. Players navigate interconnected regions filled with alien creatures, environmental hazards and hidden pathways. As Samus acquires upgrades—such as the Phantom Cloak, Spider Magnet, Flash Shift, and classic abilities like the Morph Ball and Screw Attack—new areas become accessible, encouraging backtracking and mastery of movement.
A defining feature of the game is the introduction of E.M.M.I. robots, nearly indestructible machines that stalk Samus in restricted zones. These encounters create high tension, requiring stealth, quick reflexes and precise timing to escape. Failure often results in instant defeat, reinforcing the game’s atmosphere of dread and urgency.
Combat is fluid and responsive, with Samus using her arm cannon, missiles, melee counter and movement skills to overcome increasingly dangerous enemies and bosses. Boss battles test reflexes, pattern recognition and skillful use of abilities.
Visually, Metroid Dread blends sleek sci-fi environments with dynamic animations and atmospheric lighting. The soundtrack and sound design heighten suspense, while cinematic moments advance the narrative in dramatic fashion.
Praised for its difficulty balance, pacing, and faithful evolution of the Metroid formula, Metroid Dread stands as one of the finest modern Metroidvania experiences and a landmark title on the Nintendo Switch.

Rated T for Teen for violence and intense moments. Features sci-fi combat, dangerous creatures, suspenseful E.M.M.I. encounters and action-focused exploration.
