Gameplay builds upon the foundation of the 2018 title but expands every system. Combat is deeper, faster, and more tactical, featuring upgrades to the Leviathan Axe, Blades of Chaos and Guardian Shield, along with new runic abilities and weapon techniques. Atreus becomes a more capable companion, wielding his bow, summoning spectral animals and performing combo attacks.
 

Boss encounters are more varied and cinematic, including standouts like Thor, Heimdall, and multiple mythic beasts. The game also introduces new enemy types, puzzles, traversal mechanics and optional challenges such as Berserkers and The Crucible in Muspelheim.
 

Visually, Ragnarök is stunning—offering improved animation, character detail and environments enhanced by the PS5's performance modes and near-instant loading.
