Stranger Than Heaven : What’s New from the Brand-New Trailer?

Till now, RGG has revealed three cinematic trailers since the project was announced at TGA 2024. Each one showcasing the same thing has made the entire Yakuza Fandom bite their teeth in eager anticipation. Besides a groove solo and a touch of Jazz, this freshly baked trailer will likely depict the early days of Yakuza business in industrialized Japan. Covering over 5 cities, the game will revolve around not 2, not 3, but 5 different timelines: 1915, 1929, 1943, 1951, and 1965.

“We also got a frenetic look at the game’s brutal, highly dynamic combat systems, with everything from weaponry, grappling, one-versus-many fights, and environmental interactions shown off. “This is an all-new level of combat design from us, and what you saw is just the tip of the iceberg with much more to be revealed soon.”

As stated by Masayoshi Yokoyama, the trailer kicked off with electrifying duels from the post-war streets of Japan. Hinting at breaking through the Japanese Underworld, this “art of RGG” takes you through an immense bloodshed and stunning fighting choreography. To be very honest, the trailer gives off the same fighting vibes as Sleeping Dogs. No arms & ammunition, just knuckles and anything you find easy to wield!

From breathtaking visuals to a head-rolling drumming solo, the trailer has set a high standard amongst other Yakuza games.

Fun Fact : Snoop Dog is in the house, baby! Reports and announcement trailers suggest that Snoop will play a major role in RGG’s upcoming game.

Is Ryu Ga Gotoku Expanding the Yakuza Bloodline?

Given this question, I know you have a lot to say, but we still don’t know yet. While fans eagerly await the special premiere on May 6, 2026, many speculations from various social media platforms claim that Stranger Than Heaven will revolve around the beginning era of the Yakuza and the formation of the Tojo Clan (the main entity throughout the entire Yakuza/Like A Dragon Franchise).

All hail to Maf Otaku Defined (a reliable source from YT) to state such an amazing theory…. According to him, Mako Daito (the main character of Stranger Than Heaven) is Makoto Tojo, who laid the foundation of the Tojo Clan!

Seems absurd, right? However, his insight does have a point…. How so? Being the biggest faction in the entire franchise, the Yakuza started as a dock union, which can be witnessed in the third trailer, where Mako Daito works at a Dock in 1915, suggesting that Daito played an essential role in the Omi Alliance. As we all know, the upcoming game will showcase 5 cities from 5 different eras. It’s likely possible that Mako Daito is the main person behind the formation of the Yakuza Family known as the Tojo Clan. Well, this plot makes sense as the trailer depicts Mako’s transformation from being a dock worker in 1915 to wearing a bossy outfit in 1943.

All in all, this game could be a prequel to the entire Yakuza Series, where we might be able to see Kiryu’s parents, along with other younger versions of characters who are now a part of the Tojo Clan.
