Rome wasn’t built in a day, nor was my curiosity for random updates brought by EA in their FC series after breaking a long-running partnership with FIFA on May 10, 2022. To be honest, EA will introduce everything, but can’t fix their base game, which is jam-packed with bugs and scripts, to which I lost my custom controller.
While fans are getting frustrated by Hypermotion V, which got new features in EA FC 26, the officials have announced a new “plague” for the upcoming FC 27! Titled “Project Assist,” this so-called hyper-realistic game element can now capture live moments happening in a match.

What's more? You ask… Well this brand-new tech will turn real events from matches into game graphics while providing replays from new angles, and POV’s alongside generating authentic new animations.
Someone once said, “In search of Gold, we lost diamond” and EA is rapidly moving ahead with this motto. Before moving forward, let’s talk more about the official announcement revealed on March 8, 2026.

EA FC Project Assist : Behind the Scenes
The generational script began after EA Sports acquired TRACAB last year to improve their game’s efficiency and authenticity. TRACAB is an embodiment of advanced sports optical tracking and analytics. According to a Financial Times interview with Cam Weber (EA Sports President) and Josh Noble, the goal of developing this technology is to turn Gen-Z gamers into sports enthusiasts.
When asked about the key changes in live sports and gaming in recent years, Weber claimed that the corporation aims to build a platform where sports can be combined with gaming for the entire fandom.

Further, Weber stated that “we’ve evolved with sports technology, using volumetric capture, a technique that records real people, objects, and places as true 3D data and live data from leading analytics partners. Using machine learning, we can process vast amounts of data in real time and turn it into richer experiences”.
Right off the bat, Matheus Gamer on his X account (formerly Twitter) shared that “During the SportsInnovation Event hosted by DFL (Deutsche Fußball Liga), EA announced their brand-new upcoming tech 'Project Assist'. Combined with TRACAB’s pinpoint analysis and Frostbite Engine’s million frames generation, the upcoming instalment seeks immersive gameplay. Giving users integrated overlays and new camera angles while maintaining the originality of real-time matches, John Sheperd (Vice President of EA Sports) showcased the futuristic tech!
According to Soccer Gaming (a credible source from the football world), EA’s partnership with the Bundesliga allows them to use their technology in 36 stadiums while running the project in 18 matches every weekend. Project Assist includes 12 4k cameras with 50fps of input and output. Measuring the 3D position of players and their activity on the field at a frequency of 25 Hz, EA Sports is geared up to max out their performance in FC 27.
Will Hypermotion V Win a Spot Against Project Assist?
Frankly speaking! Neither of the technologies is best suited to serve as a main feature for EA FC 27. Introduced in FIFA 2022, Hypermotion came into existence with its motion-capture technology to make the game more immersive and realistic. In search of excellence, the production house later introduced Hypermotion V in EA FC 24 with its volumetric data to analyze 180+ men and women football matches to capture their motion. The repaint in FC 26 brought features like reading ball physics, tactical positioning, and enhanced gameplay like precise shooting, realistic collisions, while providing 40% more realistic animation. Now pops a crucial question: what’s the difference between Hypermotion V and Project Assist?
Well, Hypermotion V in FC 26 was implemented to enhance gameplay mechanics and improve in-game 3D animation by tracing player motions from live, authentic matches. Project Assist, on the other hand, is curated for fans to relive iconic events that happened in a match. Expanding the field with AI involvement, FC 27 looks forward to render real time matches as in-game visuals.
Is EA FC 27 Worth Your Time?
With the never-ending hypermotion series, Project Assist is warming up to beat the soul out of us! It may feel thrilling, but when you play such scripted games, no technology helps you get out of such chaos! Don’t take this with a grain of salt because FC 26 was pure fun for me until I discovered exaggerated realism.
From a bad one-touch pass to “fly me to the moon”, like shoots depleted my mental health! Feels like EA is facing an existential crisis, as leaks suggest that FC 27 will release as an open-world sandbox titled “FC-The Grounds”. Voila! A GTA where you experience and play live football matches being rendered as in-game animations. Fans on the other side heavily criticize EA for bringing such absurd tech while ignoring their base game, which lacks a lot of things when compared to ‘OG’ FIFA 14. Is it really worth playing? Well, this depends on your taste, I mean, who would want to experience such junk when GTA VI is releasing after 13 years of development!
Final Verdict
It's crystal clear that the whole fanbase is doomed and irritated by EA’s baby steps of improvement. From ruining Ultimate Teams to introducing a competitive mode that flabbergasts users with goofy goals stated as realism! The hate is real, and I can write down a thesis filled with “what EA needs to fix” and “what bizarre things they need to remove”, but I don’t want to remember “Ronaldo hitting the goalkeeper’s ball instead of the UEFA ball.” Until further updates, what are your thoughts on EA FC Mobile 26's ongoing “Capped Legends” event?
