Apple is all set to drop bangers this year in terms of devices. We already know that Cupertino giant will be releasing a couple of devices from the iPhone 18 series. Now, all the rumours, and analysts too, point towards one thing - Apple is all set to take on its biggest rival Samsung in the domain untouched by the former since it all began - Yes, we are talking about foldable phones. For the next generation of iPhones, Apple is probably bending its screen like Beckham, though to an extreme degree, with what people are calling the iPhone Fold. Moving forward in this article, let’s have a look at all the leaks, rumors, and speculations around the first foldable by Apple.
iPhone Fold Release Date : When Can We Expect The Debut?
According to the rumours, the Apple iPhone Fold will be launching alongside the iPhone 18 lineup - so you can expect it to make a debut between September 3 to September 9, 2026. And if you look at the history of iPhones’ release, there is a pattern, more like a tradition, that began with the release of iPhone 5. Apple has dropped its smartphones in Fall, in the month of September or around it, to be precise. Isn’t it poetic?
Even if we talk about last year, iPhone 17 came out on September 19, 2025 and the latest variant, called iPhone 17e, is being put on sale in just a few days, on March 11. There’s no other variant being talked about in the latest series, apart from the Pro lineup, we should simply look into the future, which is likely leading us to September 2026 only.

Industry analyst Jeff Pu has already suggested that the foldable by Apple will enter the production phase in the second half of 2026. Though there’s a whole lot of process that goes into making an iPhone, which includes manufacturing of parts, which happens at different locations, having experts develop certain parts like the camera, screen, and more. But let’s not go deeper into that. The point is, all the parts will be assembled and put into the market, which can take a couple of months or more.
Apple iPhone Fold Specifications : A20 Pro Chipset And Whatnot
The Apple iPhone Fold could pack Apple A20 Pro chipset and why not, because Apple went way too bold when it offered the A19 Pro in iPhone Air. This comes from Jeff Pu, who noted in a research that it’s likely to be manufactured with TSMC’s 2nm process. But what’s really interesting is that it might use TSMC’s Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module, which means RAM can be integrated onto the chip's wafer only.

This also makes sense because if we are about to hold an iPhone Fold, we are likely to get double the screen size as compared to the flat ones. To be precise, previous statements from analysts suggest that the iPhone Fold will look like ‘two iPhone Air models stuck together.’ Which means the functions on the screen will be enhanced too. To support that, the space left by the RAM, if integrated on the wafer, will be put to other usage supporting the overall performance.
What’s With the Design Then?
Most of the netizens' talk is pointing us towards a potential foldable phone in Apple’s next lineup. This also became evident recently when an industry insider, Sonny Dickinson, posted a computer-aided 3D render image of what we should definitely call an iPhone Fold. See it below

If this is what we are getting, then we must talk about the big issue that Apple needs to tackle before releasing the product.
The Issue With the Design
Folding phones might look sexy but they aren’t more popular than the flat but powerful smartphones we are used to. But for the ones using the foldable ones, they see a visible crease on the screen. Like watching a film on a projector and somebody has put on a cigarette burn, not on the film but on the projection lens. It’s annoying.
If Apple is able to handle it and give us a foldable screen that’s smooth as butter and without distractions, then consider it a revolution. And who can say that people might start showing interest in such smartphones? But then it has to be accessible to the masses, which means lowering its price, something that the tech giant did with its latest MacBook Neo. Though not to forget, it comes with a significant downgrade in contrast to the popular MacBook Air.
Or Are We Getting Three iPhones?
The word on the rumor street is that we might get three iPhones instead of one, where two will be classic models and the other could be the foldable variant. However, we at OrbeatX think Apple should go for the latter next year as it’ll mark the 20th anniversary of the iPhone range of series. Doing something unique would be better then.
It’s still a mystery and everything you can know is based on a rumor from industry insiders and speculations made by fans. They seem to be believable but you must take things with a grain of salt until the tech giant decides to officially give us the good news on its baby.
