Handheld consoles have won millions of hearts in recent years with their stunning features. All hail Nintendo, which stood up and revolutionized the console industry with its hybrid console series titled “Nintendo Switch” and “Nintendo Switch 2”. Although there are several hybrid handheld consoles like Asus ROG Ally and Steam Deck in the Industry, Switch 2 stands at the pinnacle with features like 4K docked output.
Buying a console is as tough as searching for a dream job in these extreme conditions. With full-fledged consoles like PlayStation and Xbox out there, going for a different console in 2026 might seem a little lunatic behaviour to many of us. Still, the king of Handheld gaming thrives with its innovation and affordable prices compared to behemoths like PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Although the direct answer to the hotline is a simple and big “YES,” let’s excavate the premium features and next-gen technologies that make the Nintendo Switch 2 worth every penny.
Does Nintendo Switch 2 Match Your Vibe?
Switch 2 this Switch 2 that…. You read every last detail of Nintendo Switch 2, but still going for a PlayStation, due to its market cap and goodwill. Well, these decisions need to be crucial as they are made once in a lifetime if you are not a rich guy like me. I’ll say it again, buying a console is not child’s play. It requires much more dedication than clearing the Gaokao exam. If you are someone who travels a lot but needs a gaming therapy, or someone as lazy as a sloth to boot up the entire setup before playing, then Nintendo Switch 2 is a match made in heaven for you.

Released on June 5, 2025, the Switch 2 became one of the most popular handheld consoles after its predecessor. Selling over 3.5 million units in the first week, this became one of the fastest-selling high-demand consoles in the entire industry. Reportedly, the franchise bagged a total sales of 17.37 million units worldwide in December 2025.
The success of its predecessor helped this new console to cover a large section of the gaming community with a ready-made fanbase, hybrid feature, and third-party AAA success, besides original titles from the organization. What’s even more special about this device is the “Mario Kart World bundle”, which played as a massive contributor in the profit scaling of the corporation.

Speaking of my gaming experience with Switch 2, the brand-new console didn’t give me the revolutionary feeling that I felt while playing games in Nintendo Switch. Compared to the origin of this series, this handheld device has undergone major changes that have elevated my gaming sessions. Considerably, a generational leap like PlayStation did from PS4 to PS5.
From next-gen graphics to a bigger screen, enhanced aspect ratio with more accessible features like magnetic Joy-Con 2 with bigger analog sticks, Switch 2 is on my go-to recommendations for newcomers in the console industry. Whether you are experiencing original titles like Donkey King or playing a ported AAA game like Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, it feels the same as playing on a full-fledged console.
Nintendo Switch 2 Price : With Great Features Comes Great Spending
No doubt that Nintendo Switch 2 will cost a hefty amount from your fortune! Considered as one of the most expensive consoles within the entire corporation, the Switch 2 is priced at a whopping $499. Whether you call it inflation or a raise in price to increase revenue, the price compared to other tech giants feels justified. I mean, if you are bragging about the price and not seeing the ultimate features that this console offers, then my mate, you need to get your eyesight checked right now. Analysing current situations, the price hike will continue due to RAM shortage and extensive additions of AI slop into the system. So this might be the best time to invest in Nintendo Switch 2 before it crosses the sky.
Nintendo Switch 2 : A Colossal Handheld Console
The Switch 2 comes with a main console and two magnetic Joy-Con controllers. Besides this, the console is jam-packed with several accessories, like Joy-Con straps, Joy-Con grip, and an upgraded, rounded, and thick dock with an in-built fan to keep the main console cool while grinding games day and night. If you got yourself a “Mario Kart World bundle,” congratulations, as you got yourself a game code that will help you to download the game, as there’s no physical game included.
Especially, the console gained my attention with a full matte black colour and big buttons with grid layering that helps you to play with either single or dual Joy-Con. The screen is massive! Compared to the Switch, the screen feels like a home theatre as it got a severe buff of 7.9 inches from 6.2 inches.
Eventually, the console offers a primary game card slot, which is also compatible with Switch game cards, and a microSD slot, which can be used to expand storage via a microSD Express card (mandatory to install AAA titles due to their file size). Besides the primary buttons like the volume button and the power button, Nintendo Switch 2 also offers two USBC ports for charging, along with an in-built kickstand at the back.
Below is a full tabular description of the new additions in Nintendo Switch 2
| Nintendo Switch 2 Specifications | Description/ New Addition |
| Design | Design is the same as its predecessor, with half handheld and half console; both variations have a tablet and two detachable Joy-Con 2 with a dock to play games on TV. |
| Joy-Con 2 | With the same grid panels, this time we got larger analog sticks, 4 primary buttons, and 2 triggers at the back. However, optical sensors are added to the tech, which works just like a mouse, meaning it's perfect to play FPS games like Fortnite or Apex Legends. |
| Screen | From 6.2 to 7.9 inches, the Switch 2 got a step up in this section with a 1080p LCD screen and 1920x1080 resolution with HDR10 support. When docked, this console outputs 4K60 FPS with up to 120Hz and variable refresh rate. |
| GPU | A custom processor (SoC) titled Tegra T239 made by NVIDIA, which features Ampere-based 1536 cores with DLSS and ray tracing support. |
| CPU | An Octa-core ARM Cortex-A78C CPU, which brings eye-pleasing visuals to the handheld device. However, when docked, quality enhances even further with DLSS upscaling and 4K60 FPS support |
| Battery Life | Well, this is the only drawback that Nintendo Switch 2 offers to its buyers. According to the official specifications, the battery life depends on the type of game and the longevity of the gaming session. Analysing all these factors, the battery life lasts between 2 hours and 6.5 hours. No doubt, Switch still gains a first-mover advantage in this section even after having an OLED variation. |
| Storage | Developers need to get a raise as Switch 2 offers 256 GB of storage, meaning that you won’t need a microSD Express card for original titles from Nintendo. |
| New Addition: Voice Chat Button | Unlike the Nintendo Switch, the successor offers a microphone and a C button on the Right Joy-Con 2, which enables in-game voice chat through which players can speak in-game chats via the console’s built-in mic. |
Wrapping Up
If you are really looking forward to a hybrid gaming console and aimlessly waiting for the Xbox Project Helix, don’t waste your precious time and go for the Nintendo Switch. Not saying that Helix will be a disgrace in the name of Hybrid consoles, but Nintendo Switch 2 has great results, and over a timespan of 1 year release, you’ll get a bug-free updated handheld hybrid console. You can now even play more AAA titles as Nintendo is still aiming to bring exclusive games via porting. Ultimately, it should be on your wishlist if buying a PS5 Pro seems like a dream to you!
