It's been over 12 years since GTA 5 rolled out on screens and wiped out the entire gaming industry with its alluring storyline, in-game mechanics, and especially the online RP version. After ages, the anticipation rises from the graves as GTA 6 is all set to release on November 19, 2026 (don’t you delay it any further, Rockstar). With more than a thousand speculations on the internet, the community confirmed that the standard edition will be priced at a whopping $80 to $100, according to the studio’s beyond-belief budget.
Rockstar, featuring their first-ever female protagonist, “Lucia,” wasn’t on my 2026 bucket list. Moreover, this game will feature a Boonie and Clyde-style chemistry between Lucia and Jason in a modern-day Vice City (Tommy must be proud of Rockstar Games)!
While the anticipation grows frantically, fans are flabbergasted, not flabbergasted; they are shocked, stunned because of the making cost rumors that spread like wildfire! Is Rockstar really investing $2billion? Or it’s just some online kid playing with our emotions. Let’s unveil this rumor without wasting any further time!
What is this Budget Hype All About?
A game with a budget more than a football club’s net worth? Well, you heard me right, the upcoming game of the decade, GTA 6, is allocated with a budget more than Tottenham Hotspurs F.C. ($1.9 Billion). For my fans who don’t follow football at all, the game’s budget is listed more than the cost of Burj Khalifa!
Some say it’s all bluff to increase hype and raise alarm through marketing in the gaming industry, while analysts mark this rumor as a serious concern and criticize developers for their long-term investment over multiple years.
This all happened back in September 2022, when Rockstar suffered one of the largest breaches ever known in gaming history. With over 90 leaks of GTA 6 gameplay surfaced all over the internet, and the whole community went fanatic on various social media platforms.
Though Rockstar didn’t mention a penny, the budget was leaked through a conversation between devs and a hacker, which included the budget divided in ratios on development, marketing, and post-launch. As for now, according to various analysts, it is also speculated that the budget covers around 3000 to 6000 working staff, and advance RAGE 9 engine development for smoother online infrastructure.
A bombshell dropped 2 years ago still has an impact on the overall community. Still, it’s all numbers till now as the budget has not been confirmed by the parent company. It’s just some leaks we are talking about.
However, I personally won’t be surprised by this move from Rockstar as the GTA 5 budget of $265 million was surpassed by RDR 2's $500 million budget.
Fun Fact: Don’t worry about Rockstar’s budget, but worry about yours, because if Rockstar really used $2 billion in their new game, then lads, you’ll need an additional budget apart from the game’s price, just to match the compatibility with powerful software (and don’t forget about RAM).
Wrapping Up
Whether the budget goes up to $2 billion or not, fans will surely get a televisual feast on their screens. But what if the GTA 6 budget really is $2 billion? The expectations from Rockstar will rise sky-high, and if anything “just good” comes up, the disappointment will remain for ages! GTA 6 must become a new pillar for the open-world Games!
